Located at the altitude of 3,700 meters, the Seda Larung Wuming Tibetan Buddhist Institute was founded in 1980 with some 30 monks, and formally established in 1997. Around 10,000 monks and nuns now study with the institute making it one of the largest Buddhist Institute of its kind in the world. Students usually take six years to complete the formal training with some taking thirteen years for higher level of trainings
